Periodontal Disease
When plaque and tartar are left to develop into gingivitis, the gums become irritated, inflamed and infected. The later stage of gingivitis is periodontal disease, or gum disease. Deep pockets between the teeth and gums are created as the gum begin to pull away from the teeth. As a result, more bacteria is allowed to enter this crevice causing damage to not only the surrounding gums, but the bone structure supporting the teeth. If left untreated, the teeth will loosen and eventually fall out.

Scaling and roots planing are effective treatments used to remove debris and tartar from above and below the gum line. Once gum disease has developed, scaling and root planing will likely become a regular part of your oral health routine to prevent infection.
Periowave
Here at Polar Dental, we pride ourselves in delivering the best treatments available today to ensure the protection and presevation of your oral health. Periowave TM is a treatment that can significantly improve treatment results when combined with scaling and root planing.
Periowave TM uses a powerful light technology known as photodisinfection to effectively inactivate bacteria and toxins that may be left behind by scaling and root planing. The process is painless while at the same time destroys the harmful bacteria without damaging the root surfaces or surrounding tissues. By effectively killing the bacteria, the progression of the disease is halted, allowing your teeth and gums to concentrate on healing rather than fighting off further infection.
